The Economic Region Meißen

The Meißen Region is an exceptional foundation for the continuous economic growth and entrepreneurial success of its commercial enterprises.
This is assured by the region’s superb location in the immediate vicinity of the business venue Dresden, its direct access to the economic hubs Leipzig, Chemnitz, Berlin, and Prague as well as the large pool of highly motivated and flexible specialists available in Saxony.

The Meißen Region is not only home to such internationally renowned and successful corporations as BuS Elektronik, Koenig & Bauer AG, Staatliche Porzellan-Manufaktur Meissen GmbH, and Wacker Chemie AG, but also to numerous small and medium-sized businesses and innovative high tech enterprises.
The success of the entrepreneurs located in the region is the best possible argument speaking on behalf of the Economic Region Meißen and, at the same time, also an indicator of the many opportunities available to those planning to invest in this region.

Meißen County has approximately 260,000 inhabitants living in 36 municipalities and cities (10 cities / 26 municipalities).  The county encompasses a total surface area of 1,452 km2 and adjoins Bautzen County to the east, the Saxon state capital Dresden to the southeast, the counties of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge and Mittelsachsen to the south as well as Nordsachsen County to the west (PDF Map).

Meißen County’s economic structure is characterized by the manufacturing and processing industries as well as agriculture and tourism.  Industry and commerce are concentrated primarily around the five large county seats Coswig, Großenhain, Meißen, Radebeul, and Riesa.  Agriculture, which is also an important employer in the region, focuses above all on the cultivation of fruit and vegetables.  But wine growing, which has a long and rich tradition along the slopes of the Elbe River, assumes a major role in the region as well.
